03 Sep New Shareholder: Brian Hajicek
Van Matre Law Firm is pleased to announce that Brian Hajicek is a Shareholder of the Firm.
Brian Hajicek started off the new year right by becoming a shareholder on New Year Day. Brian concentrates his practice in the areas of business, employment, and real estate law. He has experience in areas of estate planning and has a niche practice helping churches and other religious organizations. Brian takes great pride in his practice areas because he gets to help guide people who are participating in significant life events like starting a business or buying real estate. His vast experience and legal skills allow him to advise, empathize, and assist people through these major milestones.
Education and Early Professional Experience
Brian Hajicek received his J.D. at the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1993 following his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Finance in 1990. He also achieved his degree of Master of Divinity at the Harding University Graduate School of Religion in 2009. After law school, he became an associate at a small firm in Lake of the Ozarks for about a year before returning to Columbia to practice at Tofle and Oxenhandler, PC. He became a shareholder there in 1998. In 2005 before joining Van Matre Law firm, a position opened at his church and he was called to be a full-time minister. Brian is currently a full-time lawyer and part-time preaching minister.
Family Life and Ministry
Brian Hajicek is married to attorney, Karen Hajicek and is a proud father to three boys. All of his boys love sports: the oldest is a junior in college who goes to Harding University and studies biomedical engineering, the middle is a senior at Rock Bridge who is going to Quincy University next fall as a quarterback, and the youngest is a freshman in high school who plays football and basketball. The family spends a lot of quality time supporting each other by traveling and attending the boys’ sporting events. Brian and his wife enjoy hanging out with friends and he especially loves the opportunity to make it to a body of water to fly fish for trout. When he has time he even makes his own lures!
The church is a big part of the Hajicek family, as Brian is one of the preaching ministers at the Fairview Road Church of Christ. Brian preaches around half of the Sundays a year. He has spent a large majority of the last decade leading the Extreme Home Makeover Ministry at his church. This ministry selects a family or charity and fixes up their place in about a week. This organization has around 100 volunteers that donate hundreds of hours to various projects. His work has helped places like Rainbow House, Granny’s Place, and Great Circle and individuals like late Almeta Crayton. Brian is a past board member of the Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Missouri and is always trying his best to give back to the world, especially in times of crisis. He has traveled to Honduras on four different occasions for medical / construction mission trips and has made several trips for hurricane and tornado relief work.
His Journey at Van Matre
Brian Hajicek knew he wanted to be a lawyer after attending a business law class in undergrad at Mizzou. Helping everyday people with their business needs was instilled in Brian as his father was in business management in the food industry and his grandfather owned a pharmacy (back in the days when they had a soda fountain).
While many attorneys have their various war stories, Brian explains his practice as, “protecting and helping clients navigate through uncertainty which will allow them to grow and take the next steps in their businesses and real estate interests.”
In 2017, after being a full-time minister for two years, an opportunity arose for Brian to join the Van Matre Law Firm. He loves working for the Van Matre Law firm because on top of an excellent local and regional reputation, he believes the firm serves as a one-stop-shop for professionals: the wide range of practice areas and expertise means there is no reason for a business owner, real estate buyer, or other professionals to go anywhere else. He describes his fellow attorneys as “the best of the best” along with being overall great people. Brian’s goals for the future at the firm include continuing to build his current client base to grow the firm.
